An Apple a Day

It’s apple season alright!
This is truly the easiest portable snack food there is. And just like with any seasonal fruit and vegetable it is there for us to eat at this very moment for a reason. It turns out that apples are very cleansing. After a long hot summer they help the body get rid of excess heat and cool us down before winter. Apples also contain pectin which has shown to help lower LDL cholesterol. There is also research pointing to apples ability to stabilize blood sugar and our healthy gut flora. More great news! I guess we can conclude that we’ve got a real super food on our hands (turns out food don’t have to come from the Himalayas or the Amazon to be super!)
Also, remember that apples are on the top of EWG’s list of dirty dozen. Conventional apples are full of pesticides so make sure to get local and organic apples - maybe even go picking!
